A bird of their own!

Bideford Secondary School's eagle

2 April 1965 A bird of their own

Hardly a bird of paradise, but certainly their own work. This ingenious Golden Eagle was constructed out of scrap metal by some of the boys of Bideford County Secondary School. It may not be able to mount up in the skies with its wings but it has a commanding air.

Gazette article 2 April 1965

Town’s Second Woman Mayor

Bideford's new mayor - second in town's history

Sixty-one year old Mrs Ethelwynne Brown, Bideford’s new Mayor, will be only the second in the town’s history – its charter was granted in 1573. Former Alderman, Mrs Muriel Cox, served as Mayor in 1954.
