    An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. In the course of a letter he describes a remarkable incident which occurred on Christmas Eve between the British and German trenches.

Competitions At Buckland

Competitions At Buckland - 31st March 1967

31.3.1967 Buckland Brewer competitions
 

Games and charades formed the entertainment at the monthly meeting of Buckland Brewer W.I. as the scheduled film show could not take place.
Winners of the previous month's competition were Mrs T Brown, Mrs S Brown. The March competition was won by Mrs H Ashton and Miss Brenda Brown. There was a large number of entries for the competition for the best narcissi produced from three bulbs, the winners being Mrs M Andrew, Mesdames T Cock and S Brown.
A draw for a tin of biscuits, given by Mrs Brimacombe, was won by Mrs F Rowland and the penny bag competition was won by Mrs J Hockin.
Tea hostesses were Mesdames T Babb, Bond, W Lawrence and F M Metherell.

Miss D Barron gave members of Buckland Brewer W.I. an enjoyable evening showing interesting slides from Devon to Scotland. She was thanked by Mrs K Mitchell.
The competition - photo of a pet - was judged by members of placing a coin on the photo of their choice. The results: 1. Mrs Fulford; 2, Mrs T Brown.
A draw was held and the proceeds from the competition and the draw are being sent to the St John Ambulance Brigade, Bideford.
A Christmas card was received from former member Mrs Kemp and her husband, who have now moved from this area.
Mrs Holman was welcomed as a new member.
Tea hostesses were Mesdames K Mitchell, J Cleverdon and Miss G Yeo. The trading stall was supervised by Mrs I Fulford.
Singing Christmas carols occupied the social half-hour.
