Henry Williamson featured

Here, photographed against the background of the estuary of the rivers Taw and Torridge which he knows so well, Henry Williamson, the distinguished author whose home is in North Devon, was featured in a BBC TV documentary ‘The Survivor’.

Sooty is quick on the draw

Cat plays darts

As quick as a dart flies to the board this cat will pounce and pull it out. From a ledge Sooty springs to snatch. He hunts darts in the bar of the Hunters Inn, Well Street, Torrington, to which he strayed five months ago. But Sooty’s grabs are not appreciated by men in a match so at such times he is banished from the bar.

Out of puff!

Steam roller disgraced

Mr Alfred C. Short, now of Bristol, sends a snap he took nearly 60 years ago of a steam roller ‘broken down and disgraced’ in Meddon Street in May 1907. The man standing in the doorway under the barber’s pole is, Mr Short thinks, the barber himself, the late Mr Alfred Stone.
