Ten year old scrambler

Learning about motorcycle scrambling

Anthony Raymont of 32 Clifton Street Bideford, although only 10, is learning about motorcycle scrambling and with his 70 cc. machine he can hold his own with his older fellow enthusiasts.

10 February 1967 Ten year old scrambler

At present he is much too young for serious competition but at every opportunity he can be seen practising in a field behind his home. On some of his practice runs Anthony meets his father and other local enthusiasts who included 14-year-old Roger Tuck of West View Terrace, second from the left. Other riders above are Terry Osborne and Tony Screech.

To build racing cars in former blacksmith’s shop

Bideford's newest industry

Bideford’s newest industry began operations this week in a former blacksmith’s shop. The firm was formed almost three years ago in High Wycombe to manufacture space frames for racing cars.

27 January 1967 To build racing cars in former blacksmiths shop

Director Mr K.J. Nicholls told the Gazette that a space frame is the chassis of the modern racing car. Seen in the picture with Mr Nicholls is a new project – the company’s own sports racing two seater called the ‘Nike’. This has had extensive testing, but without its fibre glass body. So far only the moulds for this have been made.

Second Monte Carlo Rally

Arrived safely in Monte Carlo

Mr Nick Rowe of Torrington, completing his second Monte Carlo Rally arrived safely and apparently without incident and also completed the 850-mile mountain circuit in the specified 22 hours. His first Monte ended with a crash. He is accompanied this year by Mr Bob Shutler of Barnstaple and although his Hillman Imp is a private entry there has been support from Rootes.

20 January 1967 Second Monte Carlo Rally

Mr Rowe is seen on the extreme left of the picture before setting off. On his left is his wife who said she was delighted that he had done so well.
