  • Christmas Eve at the Front

An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. Some mushroom!

New admission to Bideford hospital

One of the latest ‘admissions’ to the Kingsley Hospital, Bideford, to receive care and attention is a mushroom.

31 August 1956 Some mushroom

It is believed to be a record size. Found by a member of the hospital staff in the corner of a nearby field, it weighs 1lb. ½ and is oblong in shape, measuring 11 inches by 8½ inches across the top. Its stalk is four inches long. Nurse P. Marshall is shown holding the mushroom in the picture. It provided the matron and staff with ‘delicious soup!’
