    An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. In the course of a letter he describes a remarkable incident which occurred on Christmas Eve between the British and German trenches.

A few minutes later they were playing with equal confidence and finished the game outstanding winners by 11 goals to 0.

Fine runs in local cup competitions have played havoc with the Blues’ League programme. They have games in hand over all their opponents and, although they are now lying in the second half of the league table, the good brand of football they play should ensure a rapid climb up the ladder. ‘Father’ of the side, Arthur Shute, will see to that!

Neighbouring Schools Are Rivals At Netball

As mentioned last week, Torrington County Secondary School junior netball team beat their Bideford County Secondary School counterparts 6-4 when they recently met at Torrington.

The Torrington team was – Rosemary Squire, Pauline Tucker, Pat Parkhouse, Sandra Vanstone, Shirley Hutchings, Janet Tolley, Judith Fisher.
