An interesting letter has just been received by Mrs Packer, of Broadclyst, from her husband, Corpl Packer of A Company, 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment, who is serving with the Expeditionary Force in Northern France. In the course of a letter he describes a remarkable incident which occurred on Christmas Eve between the British and German trenches.

Has designed all furnishings of new chapel

Bideford artist Reginald Lloyd

and his work featured in a recent issue of ‘Canvas’ Westward Television’s monthly magazine of the arts. He finds his inspiration as an artist in the Westcountry, painting abstract landscapes, sculpting and – one of his keenest interests – gaining international recognition as a designer of church interiors.

Designs all furnishings of new chapel

In the new chapel at the Stella Maris Convent School at Bideford he is doing something he believes no other artist has had the chance to do – design every article and piece of furniture and paint the pictures. This will include the altar, the ironwork altar rails and screen, the pews, the candlesticks and the paining of the Crucifixion.

Appledore’s new lifeboat

Appledore’s new lifeboat,

which has undergone engine trials, will, it is hoped, be ready to leave the yards of her Isle of Wight builders next month. Provisional date for delivery is 15 May. Travelling to the Isle of Wight to fetch her will probably be Coxswain Sydney Cann, the mechanic Mr Leon Richards and Capt. Pat Brennan (local secretary of the R.N.L.I.). Provisional date for the naming ceremony is 27 June. She will be handed over by Sir Eric Seal, representing the committee of management.

Quads join a Langtree happy family

All pals together on Barns Farm, Langtree, the home of the Mills family

The proud mother of quads is a Closewool and she is the first ewe to present Mr L.G. Mills with a foursome since he began farming about 18 years ago. All the offspring are thriving, for which three-year-old Helen, Mr and Mrs Mills’ youngest child, can take some credit. She is always on hand with the feeding bottle when the need arises.

Quads join a Langtree happy family

The rabbits being held by sons Brian and Peter were given to the sons some three years ago and after a while they were found a home in a disused fowl pen. They soon got out and they have never been penned since and roam the farm at will. They help themselves to food from the fowl pen and the meal house but have remained as tame as when in a hutch.
