Women's Service: The interdenominational Women's World Day of Prayer was observed by a united congregation at the Methodist Church on Friday. This year's order of service, which is recognised by the women of 150 countries, was prepared by Queen Salote of Tonga shortly before she died. The local service was led by Mrs H R Niel and the reader was Mrs F H Lockyear.
Hartland Darts: Bradworthy head the Hartland and District League. Hoops Inn are still propping up the 11-team league from the bottom with 60 points.
A jumble sale held at the Methodist schoolroom on Saturday in aid of Guild charities, raised £13 10s. In addition to local causes, the Methodist Guild is pledged to support Homes for the Aged, the Guild hospital at Ilesha in Nigeria, and the National Children's Home.
His many friends in the locality will miss Corporal Marcus (Nick) Nicholson who, after three years with RAF Hartland, has a new posting on the Continent. He has helped behind the bard at the Westcountry Inn and has always been willing to lend a hand, making friends among locals and visitors alike.
Whist Drive: Hartland and Welcombe Liberal Association held a whist drive at the W.I. hall last week. There were seven tables in play and Mr L Middle was MC. Prizewinners were Mrs G Bayliss, Mrs O Westlake, Mrs D Redclift, Mrs T Beer, Mr S Johns, Mr T Beer, Miss Janet Heard, Mrs E Jeffery. Winner of the draw was Mrs J Hobbs.
An enjoyable evening was spent at Hartland Methodist Guild when Mr J Lees of Clovelly showed slides depicting scenes photographed on holidays in Austria. Mr A Thorne, who presided, also gave the epilogue.
