Miss Pennell examined the scholars of the Council School in religious knowledge on Wednesday morning.
Special intercession services for the war were held at St Michael’s Church, Horwood, and also at St Thomas a Becket’s Church, Newton Tracey, on Sunday last.
Gunner G Gill (RFA), only son of Mr Gill, Hunters’ Inn, Newton Tracey, had been sent to a Bournemouth hospital, suffering from a severe wound in his left foot. Gunner Gill had been in France about six months.

Golden Batman, the pride and joy of the point-to-point stables run by Mr & Mrs Anthony Hartnoll at East Barton, Horwood, has capped a great season by winning a national award.
Golden Batman who was sired by Golden Surprise and bred by Mr Leonard Bond, of Bradworthy, was spotted in a field in Cornwall by Mr Hartnoll. Mr C M C Hancock, a Truro solicitor and point-to-point enthusiast purchased him.
