The congratulations of many friends in the Northam and Bideford districts are extended to Mr and Mrs L H T Uglow of 7 Kimberley Terrace, Northam, who, on Sunday, celebrated the golden anniversary of their wedding.
Fifty years ago that day they were married at Kenn Parish Church by Rev F W Waring.
Mr Uglow was the second of ten children of the late Mr and Mrs Richard Henry Uglow, of Denbury, near Newton Abbot, and his wife is a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Raddenbury of Kenford, near Exeter.
They have a son and a daughter. Their son, Philip Uglow is English master at the Barnstaple Secondary Modern School, and their daughter, Mrs Gertrude Elston, is schoolmistress at Alwington School. There are four grandchildren - Margaret, Helen, Stephen and Katherine Mary.
On his retirement from Devon Constabulary, he became landlord of the 'Champion of Wales' Inn at Appledore and then returned to Northam to live in retirement in 1936. In that year he became a member of Northam Urban District Council and has been a representative of the Northam ward on that body ever since. In the year 1949-50 he was Chairman of the Council. During the war, Mr Uglow did valuable work as hon. ARP organiser for the Northam Urban District.
