The death took place at his home, West Street, Hartland, of Mr Henry Prouse, at the age of 72 years.
He was well known locally for his untiring efforts in connection with the Hartland Cottage Garden Society of which he was the vice chairman for a number of years. He was also a member of the British Legion from its inception and had also been a member of the Hartland Football Committee. For over 30 years he worked on the Stucley Estate.
At the funeral service in the Methodist Church both the British Legion and the Hartland Cottage Garden show were well represented.
The service was conducted by the Minister Rev D Crisp and Mr Wesley Heard was at the organ.
Immediate mourners were: The widow; Mr Ernest Prouse; Miss Prouse; Mrs E Prouse; Messrs T Prouse, Arthur Prouse and Ernest Prouse; Mrs Rene Walter, Mrs T Gray, Mrs N Slee; Mrs Doll Harris, Mrs T Gray, Mr N Slee, Mr F Beer, Mrs E Prouse; Mrs D Hearn, Messrs W Slee, J Gray, Ray Prouse, Mrs L Webber; Olive and W Jenkins.
Unable to attend were Mrs T Prouse, Mr F Harris and Mrs F Beer.
Bearers were Messrs W Pillman, W Gifford, W Barter, D Jeffery, W Nichol and T Prouse. Many other sympathisers were present.
