Total cost of the new hall (formerly the school) was £2,830, towards which a grant of 50% of the initial cost was received.
During last winter various activities raised £300, and the committee, for Saturday week’s anniversary, suggested a target of £150, but the generosity of parishioners was more than noticeable – at the end of the day £290 13s was in the kitty.
Chairman of the village hall committee, Mr J Allin, explained that £635 had been on loan free of interest from people in the parish. All had now been repaid.
The anniversary was opened by Mrs M C Sanders of Orleigh Mills. She was presented with a bouquet by Sarah Woolf.
Among items of interest were skittling for prizes, pony rides and an auction.
Skittles were: Mr Bernard Heal (Langtree); Mr A Adams (Frithelstock); Mr A Hearn (Frithelstock).
The local WI served 150 teas.
A dance later in the hall raised £31.
