‘Torrington’ naming ceremony: schoolchildren given rides
A self-confessed ‘engine spotter’ in his youth, the Mayor of Torrington, Ald. E.A. Holwill, was the envy of the large crowd of schoolchildren at Torrington Station last week, when he drove the new Westcountry class engine ‘Torrington’ which he had just named out of the station with whistle tooting.
Following the naming ceremony, schoolchildren from the Torrington Secondary Modern School, the County Primary and the Blue Coat Church schools were taken for rides in the engine cab.
