Town council election results

Bidefordians assembled outside the Town Hall late on Thursday to hear the declaration of the poll in the municipal elections gave a particularly warm welcome to Mrs E.M. Cox,the first woman to be elected a member of Bideford Town Council.

Cllr. Cox received a great welcome from the crowd as she stepped to the microphone and promised to attend meetings regularly and give her full energy to doing the best she could for electors. She added: ‘I feel rather lonely so will you please, when you can, send along another woman. In the meantime don’t be afraid, I will keep my end up with the boys.’
