Bideford blacksmith wins English championship

Multiple medallist 

At the Royal Show at Cambridge last week, Mr H.J. Newberry of Old Town Smithy, Bideford, won the Show championship for the highest number of points for horse-shoeing over the three days of the competition.

Mr Newberry also won the cup for the best fitted shoes and one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, obtaining a first in hunter shoeing, third in carthorse shoeing and v.h.c. in horse-shoe making.

Mr Newberry, aged 31, came to Bideford from Reading in 1949.
