Height of strawberry season

This is the height of the strawberry season and pickers on the well-known beds at Weare-Giffard are busy.

The days of floating up by boat on the tide from Bideford for strawberries and cream at Weare Giffard and returning on the ebb have perhaps gone for good but the fine-flavoured strawberries are in as eager demand as ever.

This group of pickers on the allotments at Weare Giffard busily picking for last Saturday’s market shows Mrs Hunt, Mrs V. Smart, Mr A. Curtis and Mr W. Short.
