Buckland farm workers to receive long-service awards

Forty years of service

The end of another day on the farm and shepherd and cattleman – Mr Fred Brock, on the left, and Mr Alfred Prance – stop to exchange news at Bowden Farm, Buckland Brewer and to discuss the visit they will be paying to the Royal Show at Nottingham to receive Royal Agricultural Association awards for forty years’ service on the same farm.

Mr Brock came to work at Bowden Farm for Mr George Heywood 40 years ago. As shepherd Mr Brock has charge of the flock of Devon Closewool ewes and Southdown rams.

Mr Prance has been 42 years at Burrough Farm, Buckland Brewer where he first worked for the late Mr Robert Tucker before the farm was bought by Mr George Heywood. He now works with the pedigree Ayrshire herd.
