Miss Florence L. Lake accepts Council’s unanimous invitation
For the first time in its history Torrington will have a woman as Mayor when Miss Florence L. Lake, the only woman ever to have been elected to the Borough Council, takes office in May.
Miss Lake first joined the Council in November 1946 and, after losing her seat in the 1953 elections, was returned to the Council in May of last year. She sits on a number of Council committees and her service in those cases where the woman’s point of view has to be studied, have proved invaluable.
