Shipping at Bideford
Bideford’s private wharves were at their busiest since the war when the picture was taken. The latest to be deepened for coastal vessels is that of Messrs. I. Baker and Sons Ltd. in the foreground where m.v. ‘Celebrity’ is discharging cement. At the Devon Trading Co., Ltd. in the background the m.v. ‘Stan Woolaway’ is discharging gravel.
If need be, Bideford, including its municipal quays, can now accommodate five vessels of aggregate tonnage of 3,500 at the same time and handles sea-cargoes averaging 2,000 tons weekly.
