Village school closing
At the end of this term the Alwington School closes and the children will be transferred to Abbotsham School and only the slate tablet recording ‘This building was erected in 1836 by Mrs and the Miss Morrisons with the sanction of the Lord Bishop of Exeter, for the education of the children of Alwington parish in the principles of the Established Church,’ will recall the days when the village had its own school.
Headmistress is Mrs G.A. Elston which has been associated with the school since 1926. Her assistant is Mrs E.A. Geen of Bideford who will be joining the staff of Abbotsham School next term.
