Opening of new Community Hall
Making a special journey with his wife from Portsmouth, Mr Henry Colwill, the founder-secretary of East-the-Water Community Association was among the large crowd that saw Sir Dennis Stucley, himself born at East-the-Water, open the Association’s new Community Centre on Wednesday afternoon.
The centre, created out of two large disused Nissen huts that were formerly part of the Rolamatic factory manufacturing electrical and mechanical components for aircraft, consists of a large hall 65 feet long that will seat over 250 people, a large stage at one end that can be curtained off to form a small hall, a kitchen and cloakrooms. It cost nearly £3,000.
