Calf thinks of mare as mum

Calf and mare inseparable

In a field owned by farmer Mr George Copp, of South Street, Torrington, an eight week old calf and a nine years old mare are inseparable. Ever since the calf was taken away from its mother in the usual way a few days after birth it has been sucked by the mare.

‘It all started when I let the calf and horse run in the same field,’ explained Mr Copp. Now I can’t get them to leave each other. If I put the horse in the next field, the calf breaks through the hedge. Each evening after feeding from a bucket of milk, the calf goes to the horse.
