Housewives throng vantage points
Eager to catch a glimpse of one of the most famous radio and television partnership, Wilfred and Mabel Pickles, scores of housewives thronged vantage points when the couple paid visits in the town during Tuesday morning.
At Bideford Secondary Modern School, nearly 600 children were assembled into the main hall. Wilfred presented a special show for the school which was a mixture of ‘Have a Go’ and ‘Top of the Form’.
A large crowd watched the arrival of the party at Bideford and District Hospital where Wilfred and Mabel greeted all the 57 patients, followed by a visit to Stella Maris Convent School and the Town Hall for a reception in the Mayor’s Parlour.
