Appledore yacht races

The races for model yachts at Appledore regatta call for considerable craftmanship, skill and ingenuity, spiced by friendly rivalry.

Practically all the models are home-made, often incorporating features of special design. The picture illustrates Mr Horace Ford, of Torridge Road, Appledore, and his daughter Janet preparing their entry in the 3 ft. 6 in. class. Mr Ford comes of a well-known local boatbuilding family and not only made this model but also one of the winners in a class for smaller models
