Rivetting decorated shoes at Torrington
The pictures on the soles and heels of the larger pair are made up entirely of coloured rivets – 400 to the square inch and 14,000 in all. They were driven home by master shoemaker Mr Charles Jenkins (64) of New Street, Torrington.
The shoes are the latest example of an art long practised by Mr Jenkins and one that has won him medals and diplomas at the Shoe and Leather Fair held annually in London. The tiny shoes, Mr Jenkins claims, are the smallest ever made by hand in this country.
