An artist’s impression
of what the new head office building of the Western Counties Building Society on Bideford Quay will look like when completed in a little over a year’s time.
Preliminary work has already begun on the demolition of the present premises, formerly occupied by Messrs. Perkins and Son, fruiter and florist. Only the back wall of the present building will be retained.
The society, now in its 100th year and Devon’s largest, has been in its present premises at the corner of Grenville Street and Market Place since September 1934. Earlier it was in premises lower down Grenville Street, and its first office 100 years ago was No. 2, Mill Street.
