Rescued Man After Explosion

10.12.1954 William Lamey

Flying Officer John Henry William Lamey, of Appledore, has been elected a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), it was announced in the London Gazette of November 30th, for rescuing an unconscious engineman lying in burning oil after an explosion in the stand-by power house.
F/O Lamey, son of the late Mr and Mrs J H Lamey, of Newquay Street, Appledore, is an Old Boy of Bideford Grammar School. He is serving at No. 16 Maintenance Unit, RAF Stafford.
He married Miss Sheila Mary Barker, of Stone, Staffs, in 1947, and now lives with his wife’s parents at Meaford Avenue, Stone. They have two children, John and Jane.
