Clock Future Uncertain
Bideford pannier market could lose its ancient parliamentary clock - to the offices of Torridge District Council. The council's Development Committee were told by the chief technical officer, Mr Richard Brasington, that the clock, now not operating, had been valuedat £700. Its condition was beginning to cause concern and he suggested that it should be repaired and refurbished at a possible cost of £100 and perhaps moved to the council offices.
The market superint- he added, wanted it to be sold and replaced with an electric clock.
The committee agreed that the clock should be repaired and a decision then taken on where to resite it.
