At one time on Sunday there were 75 or more golfers all on the fairway to the fourth hole at Westward Ho!
But this was no pile-up of play: they were all armed with shovels, brooms and rakes and were taking part in 'operation sand-blast.'
Their task was to clear some of the considerable accumulation of sand which has blown from the sand dunes on to this fairway.
Members of both the Royal North Devon Golf Club and the Northam Artisans' Golf Club joined in the combined operation, sweeping the sand into piles and shovelling it into trailers.
'It has been a very gratifying effort' said Mr Ted Lamey, chairman of the RND Golf Club's Greens Committee.
