9.5.1969 Sport Fishing

Three local young fishermen had the time of their lives on Sunday when they travelled to Brixham and landed well over £100 worth of trophies and prizes.

The youngsters took part in Wyvern Division NFSA’s annual shore competition from Brixham breakwater and which this year was coupled with the National Angling championships.

Diane Mitchell of 7 Northdown Road, Bideford, won the Mary Page junior ladies’ trophy and was also awarded a bronze medal from the National Federation of Sea Anglers.

Leslie Malcolm Dennis, of Elemore, Ballards Crescent, Instow, won the Vic Cannon trophy. His prizes included a camera, two fishing reel and two tackle boxes.

Ian Terence Curtis, of 43 Western Avenue, Appledore, was awarded the Wyvern division shield presented by the Watchet SAS and the George Hewlett trophy.

All three young people attend Bideford County Secondary School.
