Two Bideford boxers whose array of trophies testifies to their prowess in the ring.
On the left is featherweight Dave Kersey, who recently became Three Counties ABA champion, but who lost his Six Counties final against Mike Lawrence (Bristol). On the right is Bob Ellis, a widely experienced boxer who has won many representative honours.
Ellis used all his experience and punching powers to outpoint Exeter’s Bob Curry after three gruelling rounds in the Bideford club’s 21st anniversary tournament at the Royal Hotel. Kersey, however, lost his bout against Teignmouth’s Colin Ebdon on points.
In a junior bout, C Gumbley (Bideford) lost to K Ough (Devonport).
